A Positive Approach for Weight Loss
Positive thoughts can help keep you motivated and feeling good on your Diet Center Program. Think about how coaches and team leaders provide encouraging words to inspire and help guide a team to succeed. Similarly, you should talk to yourself positively to push yourself to succeed. One strategy you can try is to consider two kinds of thoughts: positive and negative. You can start by recording your thoughts in a journal. In one column record any negative thought you find yourself saying. These would be thoughts such as, “I’m not losing weight very fast, maybe I should quit,” or “People aren’t being very supportive, why should I bother,” or “I don’t think I can continue if I slip again.” Then in a second column, write down positive thoughts to tell yourself instead of the negative ones. For example, instead of thinking about quitting when weight loss is slow, you can think, “I’m not losing weight quickly, but maybe I need to reevaluate my strategy.” For the second thought, you can switch to thinking, “I need to learn how to gain the support of others. However, I can still do this for myself, to look and feel better.” When you feel bad about slipping you can think to yourself, “ I may have temporary setbacks, but I’ll learn how to deal with them. If I’m going to succeed I need to learn from my mistakes and get back on track.”Try to record any negative thoughts when you have them, and write down positive thoughts to replace them with. You can reflect on your journal entries whenever you need help staying positive. Positive thoughts can be very powerful motivators to help you succeed.
